Standardized Mini Mental Status Examination (Molloy et al, 1991)

Age Concern Pty Ltd has been given the exclusive licence to distribute authorised copies of the Standardized Mini Mental Status Examination (Molloy et al, 1991) in Australia. Organisations that use the authorised copies of the SMMSE are not in breach of any copyright laws.

One of the Directors of Nursing who continues to use the Standardized Mini Mental Status Examination (Molloy et al, 1991) as well as the ACFI tools states:

“I can unequivocally guarantee the clinical and fiscal integrity of our care plans when developed from the base data of the complete and correctly administered SMMSE. Rationalising & Professionalising Documentation - Part I

Legal And Professional Recommendations

This session focuses on a number of recommendations from the nursing profession, the Department of Health and Ageing and legal writers.

On request this program is now being offered as one of two (2) training programs for self-delivery, facilitated by Prue Mellor RN GD (Geront) MN (Geront), Age Concern Pty Ltd

The facts may be confronting. If you want to achieve best (safe) practice in documentation, the recommendations may require significant changes in thinking and practice, leaderships skills are a must.

Legal and Professional Recommendations will be useful if you/your organisation:

  • Writes a single piece of information on more than one document
  • Uses words such as inappropriate, intrusive, aggressive, appears
  • Still write reports at the end of the shift
  • Have not recently reviewed the National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse and/or the National Competency Standards for the Enrolled Nurse.

At the completion of the session each participant will be able to:

  • Document as per legal and professional recommendations
  • List 15 words to be avoided when documenting
  • Minimise documentation by reducing the episodes of duplication

Assessment

Part two (2) focuses on nursing assessment requirements as indicated by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, the Department of Health and Ageing and the Agency.

Facilitated by Prue Mellor RN, PGradDipApplSci(Geront), (Geront), MRCNA, it builds on the first in the series Legal and Professional Recommendations, and is a must if any of the following occur at your facility:

  • PCA’s and/or AIN’s assess high care residents
  • You do not assess cognition within an hour of admission, but wait some days!
  • Behaviour charts include words such as inappropriate, intrusive, aggressive
  • Comprehension,understanding and cognition assessment is on more than one tool
  • Assessment of residents takes place over set days

Includes some specifics on behaviour, pain, cognition assessment tools and processes to support funding claims and promote accreditation compliance.
