Dementia Program for Registered Nurses

A Person Centred Care Program that is recognised at university level. Previous university study not required.

Delivery

• 30-35 CPD hours. This is a nine (9) week program with two (2) sessions per week for a total of 30 CPD hours. Another 5 CPD hours are awarded if participants complete the assessment activities.
• This program is delivered through our virtual classroom.

Overall Objective

There is an objective for each session but at the completion of all sessions you will be able to integrate contemporary knowledge to assess needs of and develop evidence based and person centred care strategies for clients with dementia.

Topics

• Professional issues including an introduction to ethical and evidence based practice in dementia nursing and professional/legal documentation
• Delirium: Causes, nursing assessment and management. Morbidity and mortality, nursing responsibility in aged care
• Non-Alzheimer's Dementia including Lewy Body, vascular dementia, Creutzfeldt Jakob and Pick's disease: Nursing assessment tools and management
• Alzheimer's Disease: Possible causes, presentation and the latest in research and treatment
• Depression: Contributing factors symptom presentation, assessment and management
• Dementia: Symptoms, the nursing assessment tools, management strategies, therapies and care evaluation
• Assessing and managing behaviours, wandering, sexual responses etc.
