New Strategies for Chronic Pain Management

A series for 5 sessions to update all nurses working with patients, clients or residents who have any condition resulting in chronic pain.

• Session 1: Defining types of pain; pain assessment tools; National Pain Summit & National Pain Strategy; principles of chronic pain management
• Session 2: Simple analgesics & their role in chronic pain; current evidence on the use of opiates in chronic pain; the role of weak opioids in chronic pain
• Session 3: Strong opioids & their role in chronic pain; opioid induced hyperalgesia; addiction in chronic pain patients; breakthrough pain management
• Session 4: Current evidence on the management of neuropathic pain on the BioPsychoSocial model and it role in chronic pain; National Pain Summit - NEW strategies
• Session 5: Multidisciplinary systems in chronic pain management; self-management strategies; pain in palliative care
